Our national philanthropy is Breast Cancer, and we have our annual Breast Cancer Awareness Week (BCAW) in October. Our BCAW programming includes a soccer tournament Kick for the Cure, Salsa for the Cure, and participation in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in San Francisco. We have also sponsored a Community Day workshop on Multicultural Story-Telling and Crafts and a Media and Self-Image workshop during the Raza Day Conference. Our chapter has also worked with Upward Bound high school students to provide workshops and service learning opportunities in the local community. We work towards transforming our own communities and are always open to, and searching for, more ways to contribute to society.
For women in the US, breast cancer death rates are higher than any other cancer, besides lung cancer.
